UFO sightings in Canada in 2012 doubled previous record – Nova Scotia – CBC News.

Posted: May 15 ,2013
More Canadians say they are seeing unidentified flying objects than ever before, with 2012 numbers nearly doubling the record number of sightings recorded in previous years.
‘What exactly is driving the UFO phenomenon? Why do people report seeing UFOs? … Maybe there’s some worthwhile information in there that needs rooting out.’—Chris Rutkowski, Canadian UFO survey
In 2012, there were 1,981 sightings, nearly doubling the previous annual record of 1,004 sightings recorded in 2008. There were record numbers of UFOs reported in every province last year except for Saskatchewan and P.E.I.
Chris Rutkowski, a civilian science writer who has produced the Canadian UFO survey since 1989, has just finished compiling all of 2012 reports.
“It’s something across the board,” said Rutkowski. “People in Canada were actually looking up into the sky more than in previous years.”
The objects people witness come in a variety of forms — from triangles and balls of fire, to the more traditionally ovoid-shaped flying saucers, hovering in the sky.
Adam Canning, 10, of Lake Charlotte, N.S., is one of the many hundreds of Canadians who are reporting UFOs.
He said the UFO he witnessed with a friend earlier this year looked like an orb.
“I could see it in the distance for about a minute and then like boom, it went really fast,” said Adam, standing on a hill near his house, pointing at the sky.
“I heard this, beep, beep, beep. I knew something was in the sky. I looked up and there was a big thing. Big, round, like a big hotel or something. I looked at my buddy and I’m like, ‘That has to be a UFO.’ There’s normally helicopters flying over our house but that was way bigger than a helicopter, so I knew it wasn’t a helicopter,” he said.

A drawing of the UFO 10-year-old Adam Canning from Nova Scotia reported seeing in January. (www.uform.blogspot.ca
“There was this one little thing sticking out from the front, it looked like a little gun or something, and there were these two things sticking out of the bottom, it looked like legs or something … There were these little round lights, around the whole thing and at the top, there was one big light.”
The majority of 2012’s sightings were gathered by civilian organizations, after various federal agencies decided to give up tracking and investigating UFO reports, according to documents obtained under the Access to Information Act earlier this year. Those organizations then pass their information on to Rutkowski.
He said that may be part of the reason for the more that double the number of reports in 2012.
“It is very easy to report online, anonymously, without any worry about judgment or retribution, so I think it is very likely people will be reporting things more often to civilian organizations,” he said.
Kathleen Canning, Adam’s mother, said she is convinced her son is telling the truth about what he saw that night last January.
“Even before this sighting, I think for us to think we are the only ones in this vast universe is a bit naive, perhaps,” said Canning.
Adam drew a picture of what he saw that evening. Rutkowski said it is one of the rare times a UFO cannot be explained.
“Only about 7.5 per cent of the cases last year ended up being unexplained. Oddly enough, only about 15 per cent were completely explained, so it’s really a matter of intense investigation. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done before we can put reports like this into bed,” said Rutkowski.
“Since we don’t have the proof or evidence to suggest that aliens are behind the UFO phenomenon, what exactly is driving the UFO phenomenon? Why do people report seeing UFOs? That’s one of the reasons we put together this study is to ask these questions and suggest that maybe there’s some worthwhile information in there that needs rooting out.”
Adam’s sighting will be counted in the 2013 survey, expected to be completed next year.
Cornwall, P.E.I. — Two witnesses watched a triangular black craft with pink lights on its wingtips pass overhead slowly and silently. When it was directly overhead, the object’s underside looked like a large bright ball of white light. It flew around the town in an arc, reversed course and eventually flew off to the north over the treetops. The sighting lasted about five minutes.
Elmira, Ont. — Two witnesses saw two dark objects “shaped like guitar picks” moving silently overhead at an estimated 61 metres high, heading east.
Courtenay, B.C. — A large square object with more than 30 multicoloured lights hovered over the ocean, moved from side to side and then in an arc. It was described as a “giant lit up billboard floating in the sky.” It made “rounds” for 10 minutes before vanished from sight.
Saint John, N.B. — An object like a bright “neon green hexagon” suddenly appeared only six metres away from a witness. It remained motionless and silent, appeared to split in two sections then reformed. When the witness went to get someone else to see it, it vanished.
Shoal Harbour, N.L. — Four people saw a disc-shaped, glowing orange object flying west to east across the sky, then stop suddenly in mid-flight. After about 10 seconds, it resumed its flight and went out of sight.
Brossard, Que. — Three witnesses observed an object “twirling” above a field in an industrial area. After watching it for three minutes, one filmed it with his iPhone as it moved away towards the west.
UFO sightings soar across Canada1:58BBC News – Four colossal Sun flares in 48 hours.
May 15, 2013
The flares are the strongest unleashed in 2013 so farThe Sun has unleashed four colossal bursts of radiation in 48 hours.
On Tuesday, it released the biggest solar flare of 2013 so far, an intense burst associated with a huge eruption of particles.
When these eruptions reach Earth, they can interfere with satellites and communications systems on the ground.
The sunspots that spawned these flares are not directly facing our planet, but some Nasa spacecraft could be in the path of the solar particles.
An X-class flare is equivalent to a billion hydrogen bombs. We’re talking about a colossal amount of energy Dr Robert Massey Royal Astronomical Society
Increased numbers of flares are expected at the moment because the Sun’s normal 11-year activity cycle is approaching a peak of activity – known as a solar maximum – this year.
Dr Robert Massey, from the UK’s Royal Astronomical Society, told the BBC: “What’s interesting about these events is that you have them in quick succession.
“It really does say that we’re approaching this 11-year peak. We can’t say exactly when it’s going to happen, you can only work it out retrospectively.”
Despite this, the Sun had – up until the most recent events – been relatively quiet in 2013. Sunspot numbers had been below values in recent years and strong flares had been infrequent.
Eruptions such as this one in August last year, demonstrate the raw power of our parent star The intense bursts of energy this week were all “X-class” flares – the strongest type.
These are assigned a number which gives more information about their strength: An X2 is twice as intense as an X1, an X3 is three times as intense, and so on.
The first of the recent flares, which was given an X1.7 designation, appeared at 0317 BST on Monday 13 May. That was followed by an X2.8-class flare at 1709 BST on the same day and an intense X3.2-class flare at 0217 BST on Tuesday.
These flares – the strongest solar activity of 2013 – occurred in the space of just 24 hours.
According to the Space Weather website, a fourth, X1-class flare was unleashed at 0252 on Wednesday.
“These are spectacular events, an X-class flare is equivalent to a billion hydrogen bombs. We’re talking about a colossal amount of energy,” said Dr Massey.
“The good news is that although these can cause problems – at worst – with power supplies and so on, there’s really no threat to us living on the ground.”

Footage from Nasa shows massive flares on the Sun’s surface
When intense enough, flares can disturb the Earth’s atmosphere in the layer where GPS and communications signals travel. This disrupts the radio signals for as long as the flare is happening.
Flares are associated with huge eruptions of matter from the Sun’s atmosphere – known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs).
These CMEs can be even more disruptive because they are capable of sending billions of tonnes of charged gas and other particles into space. When powerful eruptions reach Earth, the charged matter can blow out transformers in power grids as well as tripping electronics on satellites.
The so-called Carrington Event of 1-2 September 1859 shorted telegraph wires, starting fires in North America and Europe, and caused bright aurorae (northern and southern lights) to be seen in Cuba and Hawaii.
Nasa says its Stereo-B and Spitzer spacecraft may be in the paths of the mass of particles unleashed by these recent events. The operators of those science missions can choose to put their spacecraft into a “safe mode” to protect the electronics in onboard instruments from being tripped.
“It’s a really important area for economic reasons because if we don’t learn how to protect satellites and the equipment we depend on, there is a serious issue there,” said Dr Massey.

Many indigenous communities have long had an awareness of the way nature’s systems worked. They observed their environments carefully, watching the ways animals lived, how the natural world moved in cycles and patterns. Elaborate myths and rituals have helped native people to align themselves with the rhythms and processes of nature, to feel a part of their local worlds.
On the other hand, many civilized societies have moved away from a feeling of connectedness with nature, and an understanding of nature’s ways. In the West, we have developed more dualistic ways of thinking, classifying and categorizing everything in the world. Our cities and communities both reflect and influence this thinking. Ours is a world of walls, boxes, and roads, of separation and specialization. Our social institutions are organized by a more mechanistic and linear paradigm, a less organic beat.
As the industrial revolution took hold in communities across the globe we have used this paradigm to organize all areas of our lives. In our educational institutions we have removed children from their families and natural surroundings. We have put them together in rooms and then asked a single adult to provide them with disconnected facsimiles of the world, to divide external reality into separate fields such as art, science, language, and history. What is often ignored in this approach is the way these different phenomena are related, how things often flow together and influence one another.
In a field like science the natural world has been further divided into pieces. When we were young we studied biology, chemistry, physics, and geology– as if each field existed separately from the others. We never received a coherent picture of the world that reflected the way nature actually organizes things, how these phenomena are related to one another and play a role in each individual’s life.
Lacking a unified understanding of nature, our scientists and educators have often used very misleading metaphorical language in order to describe the world. Over the last few hundred years, leading Western scientists have talked about nature as if she were a woman to be dominated, a mindless machine, a struggle for survival, or (at best) a “glorious accident.” These metaphors have influenced the way modern nations have dealt with internal social problems, other communities, and the natural world.
Our beliefs and metaphors for reality are conceptual tools. They help us create images and representations in our mind that we hope will reflect the way the world is actually organized. While these metaphors help to focus our attention on certain things they can also screen out and ignore a lot of information that is important. Over time our thinking has become increasingly rigid and reductionistic, frequently separating phenomena into fixed categories such as “us and them,” or “smart and dumb.”
In the United States, social or physical problems have often been viewed as adversaries people must struggle with or declare war upon. This dualistic thinking underlies the approaches we’ve taken toward poverty, drug abuse, cancer, and crime. It has sent missles firing into Viet Nam, Lebanon, Panama, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. In most cases our wars have been ineffective, created new problems, or simply ignored the resulting violence and suffering caused.
Yet, while this hard-edged thinking may be out of touch with the organic complexities of natural phenomena, it has provided the key to the development of sophisticated tools, mathematics, and machines. New inventions (like the microscope, the camera, the steam engine and the computer) pushed change and shaped the unfolding patterns of mechanistic civilizations. They also allowed scientists to observe the rhythmic functioning of atoms, organs, and cells; to glimpse the history of our planets and the stars.
It is in this careful and methodical examination of the natural world that modern systems theory developed. Today we have detailed information about almost everything in the observable universe. We also have a large body of words, concepts and theories that describe how all these things fit together, how these systems provide evidence of certain recurring processes and patterns in the natural world. Setting out initially to classify and categorize nature, science has now brought us full circle, rediscovering Nature’s Paradigm.

NeuroLogica Blog
I recently receive the following e-mail question:
Got a question for you: do you consider the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence to be science or pseudoscience? I recently got into an online debate and found myself in the minority because I maintained that the central thesis — that if intelligent life exists somewhere out there in the greater universe, we would be able to recognize it based upon patterns in radio waves — is not falsifiable.
It would seem to me that the only way to truly falsify SETI, we’d need to map quite literally every body in the universe and rule them out one by one and say that they don’t have anything there in terms of extraterrestrial intelligence. Unlike other complex hypotheses that are limited by available technologies, I’m not convinced that the task of mapping the universe is even possible, even with a sufficiently advanced technology.
I have received some version of this question many times over the years, always by people who are trying to be skeptical and apply what they have learned about the differences between science and pseudoscience. It therefore seems like an excellent opportunity to explore this important issue.
SETI is the search for extraterrestrial intelligence and refers to a number of programs over the years that have listened for intelligent radio signals from space. NASA for a time had a SETI program, but this was canceled in 1993. The SETI Institute now carries on this endeavor with private funding.
Whether or not you think SETI is a good idea, is it real science? The issue here is how do we define science. One major criterion for science is that a scientific hypothesis must be falsifiable. This, however, is not strictly true and is an oversimplification.

American Physicists Proved the Existence of Dark Matter Particles |.
April 24, 2013
In the United States, during the CDMS experiment with underground cryogenic detectors, for the first time scientists managed to obtain direct evidence for the existence of dark matter particles.
According to the American physicists who conducted the experiment, there remains one step before the official confirmation of the discovery of dark matter particles – the so-called “WIMPs”.
Dark matter is an invisible substance, the presence of which can be judged only by its gravitational effects. It does not interact with electromagnetic waves, that is, it does not emit, absorb or reflect any light.
The share of “normal” matter has 4.9% of the mass of the universe, the one of dark matter – 26.8%. Dark matter may consist of weakly interacting massive particles – “WIMPs”.
Physicists created an observatory for Cryogenic Dark Matter Search in an abandoned mine, which is located at a depth of 600 meters underground. The observatory consists of germanium detectors of a hockey puck size, cooled to a temperature close to absolute zero. The detector should record cases of elastic collisions of WIMPs with nuclei of atoms.
As a result, eight silicon detectors caught three cases of collision of WIMPs with the nuclei of atoms. This gives a level of confidence of 99.8% that these are really new particles, and not the result of fluctuations.
According to the study, the mass of WIMPs should be 8.6 GeV, or about 8.5 times the mass of the proton.
Recall that in early April a detector AMS-02 installed on the ISS found in cosmic rays abnormal excess of positrons, which may be a trace of dark matter.
Spinning UFO in Mexico City ejects dozens of spheres 05/22/2009 – YouTube.
MEXICO CITY — 2 remarkable videos have been shown on Mexican TV of a UFO releasing intelligent moving spheres into the sky! This video was shot in May 2009 by Pedro Hernandez, who saw the UFO while looking out a bus window. A second video later surfaced from a different vantage point by Alfredo Carrillo. As the UFO rapidly spun, it released countless orbs, which danced around the craft! Mexico City has an abnormally high rate of UFO sightings, but a recording of this kind is still a rare occurrence. The footage of this beautiful and strange aerial dance has been analyzed by Jamie Maussan and his staff and has been described as some of the most amazing and credible footage of a UFO event he has seen to date!

UFO’s in Japan: Seen before earthquake and during tsunami – compilation – YouTube.
There was an unprecedented amount of UFO sightings in the days and weeks prior to the Earthquake in Japan on 3/11/2011. It certainly seemed that way to what would be considered alternative news sources that “Asia was awash with UFO and alien events”. Numerous UFO sightings in Japan continue to be made, right up to this moment, and are still being ignored by the West and the mainstream media, although countries like China for example, have reported on the recent UFO flap in the area in their main government news agency, Xinhua. Even after the quake, when the waters of the tsunami were encroaching inland, UFO’s were filmed and several unknowns were also seen on live mainstream news broadcasts as the world watched the tragedy unfold.

The Universe is the game of the Self, which plays hide and seek forever and ever
